Prince Edward County, Canada VS Ko Lanta, Thailand.

Today I will share similarities  and differences that I have learned about Ko Lanta, Thailand and Prince Edward County, Canada. A few things I will talk about are the climate, vegetation and beaches.   Did you know that Ko Lanta is only a 13th of the size of Prince Edward County but it has a population of 27,103 people compared to Prince Edward County with 24,021 people..

In Prince Edward County it snows from mid November to the beginning of April and it’s +25 degrees Celcius from mid June to mid September. Since it's mostly under 10’ c for 8 months of the year that makes the average temperature 8.7’ c. Prince Edward County is much colder because of its relation to the equator compared to Ko Lanta. In Ko Lanta The temperature rarely drops below 25 degrees Celsius. The weather is mostly the same year round with an average of 6 inches of rain each month. Ko Lanta is much warmer than Prince Edward County because it's much closer to the equator.  I prefer the variety in the seasons in Canada as it allows me to play my favorite sports, such as down hill skiing in the winter and soccer during the summer

Prince Edward County has many trees consisting of cedar, oak, pine, and maple. In the fall my favorite thing to see are the leaves changing colors. In Ko Lanta there are 3 very different types of trees: mangroves, palm and shrubs. You will see palm trees along the coast  but mangroves in ponds and on mountains.

Prince Edward County has fresh water beaches  that contain many fish like bass, pike, trout and salmon. In Ko Lanta there are only salt water beaches that have plenty of sea life like sharks, jellyfish, squid and many other fish. The beaches in Koh Lanta have very warm waters that are very calm.

There are many differences in the landscapes of Prince Edward County and Ko Lanta, for example each place has its unique climate, vegetation and beaches.  During my stay  in Ko Lanta I have really appreciated the trees. They  are tall, lush green and healthy.  Just like in Canada trees add to the beauty of any any country’s landscape.

  1. Great comparisons, Jack. I agree with you about the different seasons and experiences we get as a result of the temperature changes.
I love that the waters are warmer in Thailand. I’m a wimp when it comes to cold water. It sounds like you have been taking advantage of that with all your snorkelling.
I love seeing our leaves change colours too. In the winter it’s a bit blah but am excited that things will be greening up here very soon!!
